Great Commission Lives On Through ZPM Retirees

Mission February 6, 2026

A historic start for a mission-driven year! The retired workers of the Zamboanga Peninsula Mission (ZPM) set a powerful tone for 2026 by leading the first-ever evangelistic series of the year for the entire mission.

Held from January 18 to 24, 2026, at Purok Min, Tiayon, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay, this milestone event was organized by the Mission View Adventist Church under Ipil District II.

“The gospel commission is the great missionary charter of Christ’s kingdom.”

-Ellen G. White, The Desire of Ages, p. 822

This evangelistic series did not only mark the beginning of the year’s soul-winning efforts but also made history as the first evangelistic effort led entirely by retired workers in the Zamboanga Peninsula Mission. Though officially retired from active service, these faithful servants continue to respond to the call of the Great Commission, clearly reflecting the biblical promise that “they shall still bear fruit in old age; they shall be fresh and flourishing” (Psalm 92:14, NKJV).

The theme “Family, Health & Bible” ensured a well-rounded ministry to the community.

  • Dr. Matilde Benito (Ed. D, Retired) opened the seminar with Family Life lectures, stressing that a spiritually healthy church starts with Christ-centered homes and godly character.
  • Merna Pamunang (MPH, Retired) led the health segment, teaching the community that caring for the body as God’s temple is a vital part of Christian stewardship and preventive living.
  • Pr. Sonny Hernando (MMin, Retired) crowned the evenings with powerful Bible presentations, proclaiming the Word of God with the wisdom and conviction of a lifetime in ministry.

By prayers and faith, the spiritual harvest was bountiful. By God’s grace, seven precious souls were baptized. These are the first fruits of ZPM’s evangelistic labor for 2026. This highlight affirmed that the Holy Spirit continues to work mightily through those who answer the call, regardless of age.

The evangelistic effort concluded with a meaningful fellowship meal, a culminating program, and an awarding ceremony that honored the dedication and achievements of the seminarians who actively took part in the evangelistic series. This conveyed a clear message that as the year 2026 unfolds, the mission of the church remains its foremost priority.

This retirees’ evangelistic series stands as a living testimony that the “Great Commission” knows no retirement age. As long as there are willing hearts, God will continue to use His servants to advance His mission until Christ’s soon return.
