AMEN Workshop and Training: Empowering Lay Bible Workers for Mission

Mission December 12, 2024

Zamboanga Peninsula Mission (ZPM), November 26-29, 2024—The Adventist Mission Evangelism Network (AMEN) successfully conducted its workshop and training at the ZPM Function Hall, drawing delegates from various districts and churches. The event aimed to equip new lay Bible workers with the skills and knowledge needed to serve effectively in the field.

With the theme “To Win, To Hold, and To Send,” the program focused on the foundational purpose of evangelism, emphasizing its Biblical basis and practical application.

The four-day workshop inspired participants to embrace their calling in evangelism by engaging in soul-winning and discipleship. Sessions covered a comprehensive range of topics, including Biblical hermeneutics, sermon design, Bible marking, the art of Bible study, the sanctuary doctrine, Christian grooming, nurturing and reclamation, apologetics, applied theology, and strategies for addressing objections using an Adventist approach.

A key highlight of the program was the practical application of participants’ newly acquired skills through Bible study demonstrations. Working in groups, they developed sermons and planned evangelistic approaches tailored to their local communities.

Cristina Largo Diabo, one of the youth participants, shared her personal journey: “I was converted by an Elder who spoke the Holy Truth with gentleness, explained with clarity, and lived it through kindness. It was during those times I started to seek the truth in the Scriptures, and now, I’m here attending this training.”

Another participant, Arden Secretario, reflected on the value of the training: “It’s a big privilege to join this workshop. If not for this opportunity, I wouldn’t have learned the proper method of giving Bible studies. While we’ve conducted Bible studies before, the teachings and guidance provided by our directors have shown us a much better way. This will make our work in the mission field more effective.”

He added, “Sometimes, Bible workers face conflicts with their Bible students because of improper approaches. Before, we relied on our own understanding of how to mingle with people. But through this seminar, we’ve been taught the right methods. I’m confident that when we return to our districts, our Bible studies will be more effective because of the improvements we’ve gained from these lectures.”

Their testimonies reflect the transformative impact of the AMEN workshop, equipping attendees to be more effective and intentional in their evangelistic efforts.

In an interview, Pastor Abundionito Cayme, SWPUC Sabbath School and Personal Ministries department director, emphasized the heart of evangelism: “While it’s important to know how to conduct Bible studies and present the truth, our ultimate goal in every Bible study or sermon should be to lift up Christ.” He reminded participants, “We should remember that it is not us who convert and touch souls, but only the Holy Spirit. It is through our involvement and willingness to be useful for His work that we can impact and change lives.”

Pastor Cayme concluded with a powerful reminder: “Our goal is not just baptism but to make disciples.”

The event concluded with a commitment and dedication program led by Pastor Arnold C. Sombilon, who underscored the importance of Total Member Involvement (TMI) and the joy of serving the Lord. Participants left the training with a renewed passion and readiness to “win, hold, and send” for God’s kingdom.
