On December 13, 2025, the Lower Gutalac Seventh-day Adventist Church, located in Lux, Gutalac, Zamboanga del Norte, held a solemn and meaningful Special Feature for Widows and Widowers during the Adventist Youth Program. This significant occasion marked the first formal recognition of widows and widowers in the local church, reflecting the congregation’s commitment to Christian compassion, care, and unity.
The special program was organized by the Women’s Ministries Department, under the leadership of Ma’am Apolinaria A. Yangco, with the support of church officers, youth members, and the entire congregation. A total of six widows and two widowers were honored for their steadfast faith, resilience, and continued devotion to God despite the trials brought by the loss of their life partners.

The primary purpose of this special feature was to acknowledge the courage and faithfulness of widows and widowers who remain active and committed members of the church. Their lives serve as testimonies of trust in God’s promises. As stated in Psalm 68:5, “A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in His holy dwelling.” This assurance reminded the congregation that God is ever-present as a source of comfort and strength.
During the program, the honorees received tokens of appreciation and heartfelt messages from their loved ones, family members, friends, and fellow church members. These expressions of love and encouragement reflected the spirit of Christian fellowship and care within the church community. The message of Psalm 34:18, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit,” was deeply felt throughout the program.

The recognition also emphasized the biblical responsibility of the church to care for those in need. As written in James 1:27, “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress.” Through this initiative, the church demonstrated its commitment to putting faith into action through compassion and service.
Moreover, the event highlighted the importance of mutual encouragement and unity among believers. Romans 12:10 reminds the church, “Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.” This principle was clearly manifested as the congregation stood in solidarity with the widows and widowers, offering both emotional and spiritual support.

An inspirational reflection shared during the program emphasized that faith remains steadfast even in seasons of loss, providing hope and purpose beyond sorrow. The lives of the honorees continue to inspire the church through their quiet strength, humility, and unwavering trust in the Lord.
The Special Feature for Widows and Widowers concluded with a renewed sense of gratitude, compassion, and unity within the Lower Gutalac Seventh-day Adventist Church. The program left a lasting impression on the congregation, particularly among the youth, who were reminded of the importance of honoring those who have remained faithful through life’s trials.

Above all, the event glorified God, who promises in Matthew 5:4, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” Through this meaningful recognition, the church served as an instrument of God’s love and comfort, strengthening its mission to care for and uplift every member of the faith community.
