ZPM Bud Mana and Tausug Landowner Ink 25-Year MOU for Sustainable Farming

Mission September 30, 2025

Bud Mana has taken a historic step in community development by signing its first-ever Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with a Tausug landowner to cultivate seven hectares of farmland for sustainable agriculture.

Voluntarily offered by a Tausug community member, the land will become a hub for sustainable farming initiatives, advancing Bud Mana’s mission to transform health, education, agriculture, and livelihoods across the Sinumaan Complex of Talipao and the wider province of Sulu.

Signed at Barangay Hall in Upper Sinumaan, Talipao, the MOU grants volunteers authority to cultivate the land for 25 years, while the owner retains ultimate control. The agreement establishes long-term collaboration, clear roles, and a commitment to empower the community for generations.

Lt. Col. Genesis Gabrido, commander of the 41st Infantry “Partner for Peace” Battalion, expressed strong support, offering conflict mediation and emphasizing the importance of lasting relationships. Military-backed logistics will ensure efficient transport of gardening materials, seedlings, and volunteer support.

The landowner expressed excitement about learning sustainable farming techniques and seeing the land flourish. When asked about the future after 25 years, volunteers assured them the agreement can be renewed.

Barangay Captain Khadafi H. Misuwali hailed the initiative as a model for community progress, emphasizing that shared learning and engagement are essential to lasting development.

“It was historic, very important, and monumental,” said Ranny C. De Vera, Adventist Mission Director of the Zamboanga Peninsula Mission, who witnessed the event. “I hope this paves the way for lasting change. I don’t expect to see the completion in 25 years—this will continue even without us.”

From a once-forbidden area to a field of opportunity, the MOU carries power beyond rules and roles—it can transform lives, inspire communities, and bring lasting hope.
