Rooted in Progress: BUD MANA Wellness Team and Sulu Provincial Office Ink Historic MOU

Mission February 10, 2025

The BUD MANA Wellness Team and the Provincial Agriculture Office in Sulu forged a transformative partnership through the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) last Feb 3, 2025 at the Sulu Provincial Agriculture Office, Bangkal, Patikul, Sulu.

This MOU paved the way to improve socio-economic conditions, promote social well-being and help in building community resilience especially in the vulnerable places in Sulu.

The agreement, signed by Pastor, Ranny C. De Vera, the current Adventist Mission Director of Zamboanga Peninsula Mission which this project came from and the Provincial Agriculturist, Virginia P. Arreza, outlines a collaborative effort to implement civic-action programs aimed at uplifting the local community.

Ms. Arreza who staunchly advocates for organic farming, expressed her unwavering support for sustainable agricultural practices during the meeting. She envisions a thriving organic agriculture sector in Sulu, which aligns with the Wellness Team’s mission to empower communities through holistic development.

In a generous gesture, Ms. Arreza offered access to 7.25 hectares of arable land in Upper Sinumaan, Talipao, lent by local landowners, ready for cultivation. “You know what, now I remembered that we have a two-wheeled tractor. You can use it.” The team was overwhelmed with it and especially when she offered to teach proper coffee harvesting techniques, also she pledged to provide seeds for gardening and other forms of assistance

Ms. Arreza wished to visit the BUD MANA AMR Eco Camp in Banglot, Upper Sinumaan, Talipao one of these days, to explore potential avenues of support, particularly in the Agri-Tourism sector. She expressed to endorse the Wellness Team to the MAFAR Municipal Office (MMO) of Talipao, paving the way for further collaboration.

The meeting began with Ms. Arreza graciously offering refreshments to the visitors, setting a tone of warmth and mutual respect. The discussions highlighted the crucial role of collaboration between the Provincial Agriculture Office and the Wellness Team in driving sustainable development.

The BUD MANA Wellness Team and the Provincial Agriculture Office are set to roll out their programs in the coming months, with a focus on cultivating the 7.25 hectares of land, promoting Agri-Tourism, and empowering local farmers through training and resources.
